Picture this: a guest uploads a photo of the first dance from across the room. Ten seconds later, it appears on the screen behind the DJ. The dance floor erupts. Your grandmother waves at her own photo.

This is what a live wedding slideshow does - and it's become one of the most memorable features at modern weddings. Guests love seeing their own photos appear in real time. It gamifies the experience. It encourages more uploads. And it gives everyone something to talk about.

Here's exactly how to set it up, without any technical knowledge.

๐Ÿ“บ What you need

The setup is simpler than most couples expect:

  • A TV, projector, or large monitor at your venue (most venues already have one)
  • Any device to run the slideshow - a laptop, tablet, or even a spare phone
  • An HDMI cable or screen mirroring (AirPlay, Chromecast, or similar)
  • A uploadiYo Standard or Premium account

That's it. No special software, no extra hardware, no AV technician.

โš™๏ธ How to set it up

Step 1: Open your album slideshow. In your uploadiYo dashboard, open your album and click "Open slideshow." This opens a full-screen browser view that automatically refreshes as new photos are uploaded.

Step 2: Connect your device to the venue screen. Plug an HDMI cable from your laptop to the TV, or use AirPlay/Chromecast to mirror wirelessly. Set the screen to "extended display" and drag the slideshow browser window to the venue screen.

Step 3: Make it full screen. Press F11 (Windows) or Cmd+Ctrl+F (Mac) to make the browser full screen. The slideshow takes over the entire display.

Step 4: Leave it running. You don't need to touch it again. As guests upload photos via QR code, they appear automatically on the screen within seconds. The slideshow cycles through all photos continuously, showing the newest ones first.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips that make it work better

Tell your venue in advance. Most venues are happy to set up a screen, but they need to know. Mention it when you confirm final details - ask for an HDMI-connected TV and a power outlet nearby.

Use a dedicated device. Don't run the slideshow on the laptop you'll also need for other things. A spare laptop, old tablet, or even a large phone on a stand works perfectly. It just needs a browser and internet connection.

Brief someone to manage it. You'll be busy. Ask a technically confident friend or family member to be the "slideshow person" - their only job is to make sure the screen is connected and running when the reception starts.

Position the screen strategically. Near the dance floor or behind the DJ is ideal - it gets seen during the highest-energy part of the evening. If you have multiple screens, running the slideshow on the one nearest the bar means guests see their photos while ordering drinks.

Turn off the screensaver. On whatever device you're using, disable the screensaver and sleep mode. You don't want the screen to go dark in the middle of the reception.

๐ŸŽฎ Why it works so well

The live slideshow creates a feedback loop. Guests see their photos appear on screen, which makes other guests want to upload theirs. The participation rate at weddings with a live slideshow is consistently higher than those without one.

There's also a social dynamic at play. Seeing your photo appear on a big screen in front of everyone is a small moment of delight. Guests point, laugh, nudge each other. It creates conversation. It makes the evening more interactive without requiring any effort from the couple.

The best moment is always the same: a photo of the couple that a guest captured from an angle the photographer missed, appearing on screen while the couple is standing right there. Priceless.

๐Ÿ“‹ Quick setup checklist

Print this out and hand it to whoever is managing the slideshow:

  1. Connect device to venue screen via HDMI or AirPlay
  2. Open Chrome or Safari, go to your uploadiYo dashboard
  3. Open your album โ†’ click "Open slideshow"
  4. Make the browser full screen (F11 or Cmd+Ctrl+F)
  5. Disable screensaver on the device
  6. Make sure QR codes are on every table before guests arrive
  7. Ask the MC to mention the slideshow once during the evening

That's everything. The slideshow runs itself from that point.
